As early as it becomes possible to start wiping your baby’s gums with a damp, clean washcloth, especially after feedings. This will stimulate the gums, wipe off bacteria building on teeth and will introduce your baby to the process and feeling of brushing.

- Once the 1st tooth appeared, transition to a finger brush with a small, rice size amount of safe to swallow, fluoride free toothpaste (4).
- Gradually introduce a full size kids’ toothbrush to the child, continue to brush with fluoride free, safe to swallow toothpaste. Our toddler brushing giude will come in handy at this point.
- Use safe to swallow training toothpaste until your toddler learns not to swallow the paste as well as to thoroughly rinse her/his mouth. Switching to fluoride toothpaste would than be a safe option.
